Obituary of Alice Hayes

Alice Lee White Beacham Hayes was born in Carthage Mississippi on August 22, 1931 to Fannie Pearl Thomas and William Hardy White. She graduated from Carthage High School where she was Miss CHS in 1949. She went on to Mississippi College for Women where she spent two years. She married her high school sweetheart Thomas Henry Beacham in 1951 before he went to Korea. They had a son, William "Bill" Wayne Beacham. Thomas' plane never returned from his last mission in March of 1952.

In February of 1957, Alice Lee had a date with her future husband and on September 22, 1957, Alice Lee and Bill married Thomas Stanford "Stan" Hayes, Jr. They had 55 happy years together in Clarksdale where Stan farmed and Alice Lee was a homemaker. Alice Lee and Stan had three children together. Thomas Stanford "Tripp" Hayes III (Paige), Tracy Lee Hayes Buchanan (Joey), and Alicia Brooke Hayes Merkel (Charles). Alice Lee was called Honey by her grandchildren, Olivia Brantley Hayes, Martha Kathryn "Kate" Hayes, Mary Claire Lee Hayes, Hampton Hayes Buchanan, Joseph Thomas "Joe" Buchanan and Lila White Merkel. She leaves behind a special nephew Johnny Gross (Nancy) who was like another son.

Alice Lee also leaves many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, sister-in-law's and brother-in-law's that she loved dearly along with those who are already waiting for her in heaven.

Alice Lee called most people "Shugga"! It was her term of endearment and she used it even when she first met someone. Alice Lee was steadfast in her faith and in her love for family and friends. She truly was as beautiful on the inside as the outside. Alice Lee was a true servant in her life and felt that the Lord had blessed her with more blessings than she deserved. Just like she did everything else in her life, she faced the end of her life with grace and dignity.

Alice Lee is preceded in death by her husband Thomas Stanford "Stan" Hayes, Jr. , her parents Fannie Pearl and William Hardy White, her brother Thomas Allen White, her first husband Thomas Henry Beacham, her sister Syble White Gross and her husband John, and her sister Nell White.

There will be a visitation followed by a Rosary at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Clarksdale Mississippi starting at 5 PM on Thursday, January 11, 2018. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church at 10:30 AM on Friday, January 12, 2018. The services will be handled by Meredith Nowell Funeral Home.
