She had turned 100 years old on Oct. 15, 2017. Sue loved many and was loved by many, but the love of her life was Thomas, whom she married on Dec. 30, 1941, in her home in Plantersville, MS.
After graduating from MSCW (now MUW in Columbus, MS) she first taught in Plantersville before moving to Clarksdale, MS. In Clarksdale she taught school but also found a home for over 75 years in the heart of a community she loved and with the First United Methodist Church members who loved her back. She also found an undying place in the heart of the Dye family and especially in the loving heart of Thomas W. Dye, one of six brothers in that family.
Sue lived in her home on Cypress Avenue until moving to Flowers Manor, the United Methodist Senior Services home in Clarksdale. After two years there she transferred to Traceway Manor's Cohen House at Cedars Health Care Home. She was there when she died peacefully in her bed on Friday.
Sue loved her family and her many friends. For years she informed and entertained many with her teachings and stories growing out of her love for birds. Until very recent weeks she could inspire and delight others by playing the piano in the great room at Cohen House She took her love for her hometown church of Plantersville United Methodist and expanded it to First United Methodist Church in Clarksdale.
As of this posting on Saturday the plans are for a visitation on Monday, Jan. 8, at Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home on East Second Street in Clarksdale, MS.
