Mary Baker

Obituary of Mary Lou Baker

On May 20, 2021 Mary Lou Baker, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend entered into eternal rest at the age of 86. She was the matriarch of a large family and will be deeply missed. For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down, we will have a house in heaven, an eternal body made for us by God himself. 2 Corinthians 5:1 Mary Lou was born May 1, 1935 to Naymond and Ora Nail. Along with four siblings, she was raised on a farm in Biscoe, Arkansas. Mary Lou fell in love and married Doyle Nicholas Baker in 1954. They were married for almost 49 years, until his death in 2003. Together they created a happy home and raised four daughters in Arkansas, Louisiana but mainly Mississippi. Her daughters feel blessed beyond measure that God chose such a perfect mother for them. She was the ultimate homemaker, a skilled seamstress, a great cook and an avid bridge player. She loved for her whole family to be together for birthdays and holidays. She was strong and loving with a quick wit and a deep faith in God. For thirty years she served as the secretary for St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Clarksdale where she had many friends. She lived her last years with her daughter Susan and family in Brandon, Mississippi. Mary Lou is rejoicing in heaven with her husband, her parents, two brothers, Raney and Austin Nail, her granddaughter Megann Williams and her son-in-law Harry Tillman. She is survived by her brother Dean Nail and sister Maudie Robinson, daughters and sons-in-law Carol and Robert Ingram of Shaw, Mississippi, Susan Tillman of Brandon, Lisa and Robert Williams of Oxford, Mississippi, and Nickie and Mark Reich of Evans, Georgia. Lovingly known as Meemaw, she also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Charles (Leigh) Ingram, Brett (Melissa) Ingram, Blair (Dan) Warren, Betsy (Brian) Fontenot, Baker (E'Lane) Williams, Andrew Reich, and Olivia Reich, and eleven great grandchildren, Powell, Russ, Isabella, Emma, Anna, Madison, Michael, Crews, Grayson, Luke and Nora. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at Oakridge Cemetery in Clarksdale, Mississippi at 1:00pm. Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale, MS. is handling the arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the Arthritis National Research Foundation at curearthritis.org/donate.
