Obituary of Burnice Nickels

Burnice Nickels Tunica, MS Burnice Nickels, 99, retired from Federal Government General Service Agency & Selective Service, died November 10, 2020 at her home. Graveside services are 11:30 A.M. Thursday November 12, 2020 at Oakwood Cemetery in Tunica, MS. Memorial Funeral Home in Tunica, MS is handling the arrangements. Tonight our Mamaw went running through the Pearly Gates seeing her Savior and her waiting loved ones. Our hearts are broken, but nothing compares to the joy she feels now. Being a strong Christian woman enabled her to survive the Depression, raising three fine sons by herself and the loss of her husband, son and grandson. Her life was full with seven grands and 19 great grands. Family gatherings were always spent enjoying the wonderful food she prepared ( no recipe needed). Her weekly cake and coffee meetings with her church ladies was a special time of fellowship. She has left us a tremendous legacy, and we are blessed to call her our Mamaw. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Tunica, MS. Survivors include her sons Jerry Nickels (Diana) of Senatobia, MS and Vick Nickels (Betty) of Starkville, MS; brother Macon Shaw of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren Gray Nickels, Brian Nickels, Lynn Savage, Shaw Nickels, Joseph Nickels, Anna Lauren Gunn and Ty Nickels and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Nickels; parents A.D. (John) and Idella B. Worthy Shaw; son Dedric Arthur Nickels; grandson Preston Nickels; 9 brothers and 1 sister. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church of Tunica or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
