Obituary of Jerry Wayne Long

Jerry Wayne Long, 69, of Grenada, MS went to be with the Lord September 5th, at Quitman County Nursing and Rehab. He was born July 31, 1951 to TJ and Zula Belle (Wright) Long. Jerry carried his father's legacy of refinishing hardwood floors in his own business, Long's Pro hardwood floor services. A sports enthusiast, of all sports, it never surprised any one to see him walk up at any football, baseball or basketball game at any school within a hundred-mile radius. He has coached, refereed, umpired and cheered on every child and teen in Quitman County at one point in time. He loved to hunt and fish especially with his brother and nephews. He was the type of guy that moved away from Marks but every time there was an event he always came back "home" to see all of his friends and family. If you knew him at all you knew there was always a story for him to tell and sometimes it was a story you had heard him tell many times before, but it was always entertaining. He was the family historian. He knew dates and all of the relatives no matter how distantly related. He loved reunions and never missed one. He loved Marks and Marks High School and all who attended and generally had a story to tell about everyone he remembered from there. Jerry had an infectious laugh and smile and if he loved you, he loved you with all of his heart. The most important love of his like was his love for his Heavenly Father. He found a church home at Friendship Baptist Church in Grenada where he was very active and loved all of the members there and his faith and love grew stronger. He loved to witness and tell others about Jesus and what He had done for him. He is preceded in death by his parents TJ Long and Zula Belle Wright Long, one sister Elizabeth Ann Tremper. He leaves behind 2 daughters Lori Long Keenum (Wes) of Madison, AL, Lindsay Long Murphree of Athens, AL. Grandchildren Sanders Murphree, Jack Murphree, James Ryan Keenum, Anabelle Keenum and Kevin Warren and a brother Jimmy L Long (Mary Frances) of Marks, MS and many cousins and friends to cherish his memory. The family requests that any memorials be made to Belen Baptist Church 2191 Hwy 316 Marks, MS 38646 A memorial service will be held at the Marks Cemetery Thursday September 10th @ 2pm. Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale, MS is handling the arrangements.
