Obituary of Kathryn Davant Dodson
Kathryn Davant Dodson passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2020, at age 94. She was born on February 28, 1926 in Bay City, Texas, to William Edwards Davant and Mary Naomi Brigham Davant. She graduated from All Saints' College in Vicksburg, then attended the University of Texas and the University of Mississippi. While at Ole Miss, she met Jack Robinson Dodson. They were married on April 29, 1946, exactly one year after he was released from a prisoner-of-war camp in Germany. Kathryn was an enthusiastic bridge player, an amateur painter, an excellent cook and an adventurous traveler. She was a wonderful and beloved mother, grandmother and friend. A charter member of Saint Paul's United Methodist Church, she faithfully attended and served there. She dearly loved her Church and Savior. Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband Jack, who died in 1993. She is survived by her son, Jack Dodson Jr. (Merlyn), of Clarksdale; two daughters, Kathy Goss (Jimmy) of Clarksdale and Davant Dodson-Rosenberg (David) of Pittsburgh, PA. Kathryn had seven grandchildren – Rob Dodson (Deanna), Lyn Dodson, Kathryn Hill (Ray), Jim Goss (Anne), Will Goss (Olya), Mary Virginia Bays (George), and Lydia Rosenberg (Jared Miller), and ten great-grandchildren. The family will receive visitors at Clarksdale United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. on March 3. A memorial service and celebration of her life will follow at 2 p.m., with Rev. Neville Vanderburg officiating. Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Clarksdale United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
