James Lee Brand

Tutwiler, MS

James Lee Brand, 94, retired Co-Owner and Manager of the Tutwiler Grain Elevator and Hardware Store for 40 plus years, died December 29, 2017 at Parkway Place Retirement Center in Houston, TX. Visitation is Friday January 5, 2018, 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Clarksdale, MS. Funeral services are 11:00 A.M. Friday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Clarksdale, MS with burial in the Oakridge Cemetery. Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale, MS is handling the arrangements.

Mr. Brand was a longtime active member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. He served his country during World War II in Europe as a member of the 3rd Battalion 7th Infantry in the U.S. Army. After returning home from the war, he graduated from Mississippi State University and was a lifelong Bulldog fan.

Survivors include daughters Becky Brand (Ed Wellmann) of Dunlap, TN and Beth Brand Maybik (Tom) of Houston, TX; sisters Donnie Brown of Charleston, MS and Alice Douglas of Murfreesboro, TN; grandchildren Ryan Johnson of Houston, TX and Caitlin Johnson of New York, NY and 2 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Mrs. Annette Dorris Brand; parents James Brand and Beulah Bailey Brand; sisters May Betty Hunt, Inez Hardy, Blanche Dement, Hilda Tenhet, Nina Young, Esther Maddox; brothers Wayne Brand, Earl Brand, Rex Brand and grandson Dylan Johnson.
