Lida Levine Kemp Stephens, the eighth child of Nathaniel Kemp Sr. and Blanchia Nicholson Kemp, was born June 10, 1937 in Alligator, Mississippi. She departed this life and gained her heavenly wings March 25, 2018.
Lida received Christ at an early age and was a member of Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Alligator, MS. She was a member of the choir and served faithfully until her health failed.
Lida received her formal education in the Coahoma County School System. She was a graduate of Aggie Agricultural High School and Coahoma Community College. She retired after thirty-eight years as an Early Childhood Education teacher for Aaron Henry Head Start Program.
Lida was married to the late Henry Frank Stephens. She was also preceded in death by her mother and father Nathaniel and Blanchia Kemp; three brothers Nathaniel Kemp, Albert Kemp and Joseph Kemp; four sisters Ruth Kemp, Iola McGill, Georgia Kemp and Eddie Johnson.
Lida leaves to cherish her memories one son Michael Lawayne Kemp of Clarksdale, MS, two daughters Demetria (Johnnie) Wilkins of Robinsonville, MS and Vernita (Perry) Stephens of Clarksdale, MS, one sister Verna Kemp of Clarksdale, MS, one granddaughter Lashandra (Allison) Brown of Clarksdale, MS, two grandsons Demarcus Wilkins of Memphis, TN and Brycen Bailey of Clarksdale, MS and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held Friday March 30, 2018 4:00 - 6:00 P.M. at Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale, MS. The funeral service will be Saturday March 31, 2018 11:00 A.M. at Meredith-Nowell Chapel with burial in Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale, MS is handling the arrangements.
