Sarah Smith Spence
April 4, 1925 – February 21, 2018
One of seven children born to William Andrew and Sarah Ella Smith in Union, Mississippi, she had four older brothers Ross, Dee, Jim and Drew, two younger sisters Marlene and Janiece. A farmer's family who lived in the County Line community where its residents loved their families, neighbors, school, churches and an undying allegience to God and country. So stands these same beliefs today!
She was a graduate of County Line High School, Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi, Mississippi State University in Starkville, MS, Post Graduate Certification, Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
She was a teacher of Home Economics and Science for thirty-five years beginning in the McCool and Raliegh High Schools in Mississippi and retiring from the East Baton Rouge Parish Schools in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clarksdale, Mississippi and a former member of Brownsfield and Zoar Baptist Churches in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and her husband George W. Spence. Surviving members of her immediate family are her only daughter and son-in-law Joan and Michael Morris, Clarksdale, MS; one grandson Todd Morris and wife Robin, Jackson, MS; one granddaughter Natalie Rula and her husband David, Birmingham, AL; 3 great granddaughters Mary Grace, Addison and Sarah Morris, Jackson, MS; 2 great grandsons Holland and Larson Rula, Birmingham, AL; a sister Marlene Lee, Walker, LA; a sister and her husband Janiece and Lavern Cox, Baton Rouge, LA; sister-in-law Mavis Smith, Rogers, AR and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Baker Funeral Home Chapel in Baker, LA Monday February 26, 2018 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. followed by a memorial service at 11:00 A.M. officiated by the Reverend Kipp Smith, Poplarville, MS with Terry Bowman, Baton Rouge, LA in song. Interment in the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Clarksdale, MS, St. Jude, or the Cancer Foundation.
