Dan L. Stanley, 82, of Nesbit, MS passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Baptist Desoto Hospital.

Mr. Stanley was born to Butler and Grace Stanley on July 4, 1935 in Clarksdale. He grew up in the Sunflower community, graduating from Sunflower High School. He lived and raised his family in the loving and tight-knit area. He was a member of Oakhurst Baptist Church.

After graduation, he served in the U.S. Naval Reserves. In 1955 he married Shirley Tollison. They settled in Sunflower where they lived until 2013. Mr. Stanley worked at Delta Wholesale Hardware until he joined his father to farm full time for 20 years.

He served on the Board of Directors at Riceland Foods, Stuttgart, Arkansas. He also served for 15 years on the Board of Directors for Delta Grain Drying Cooperative. He owned and operated Crystal Manufacturing in Clarksdale, which specialized in the design and manufacturing of hospital scrub suits.

He had a love for creativity. In 1990, he opened Stanley Welding and Machine Shop where he designed and made customized iron furniture. He was a charter member of the Sunflower School Consolidated Preservation Board.

His friends, family, and community knew him as someone who loved helping others, telling stories from his childhood and teaching anyone who wanted to learn about his many interests.

Mr. Stanley, known as Happy to his family, is preceded in death by his parents Butler and Grace Stanley, his sister Betty Ann Malone, his brother Earl Stanley, and his brother Lester Stanley, all of Clarksdale.

Mr. Stanley is survived by his wife of 61 years, Shirley Tollison Stanley; his son Danny Stanley (Mistie) of Marks, MS; his daughter, Debbie Stanley Windsor (Jim) of Nesbit, MS; his grandchildren Jessica Stanley Roberts (Chad) of Cleveland, MS, Christen Stanley Pinner (TJ) of Coldwater, MS, and Kendall Windsor Trim (Josh) of Brandon, MS; great grandchildren Whitten Trim, Olivia Trim, Lane Pinner, and Gregory Roberts; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Sunday, 11/5/17 at Oakhurst Baptist Church. Visitation is scheduled at 1:30 PM, funeral service is scheduled for 3:00 PM.

The family extends their thanks for the prayers and support they have received during this time. Special thanks to the Bridgetown Volunteer Fire Department, Desoto County EMT service, and Desoto Healthcare.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital, Memphis Tennessee or Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital, Jackson Mississippi.
