Mrs. Annie Mae Hamp, 90, of Clarksdale, MS passed away Monday, February 27, 2017 peacefully, at her home. She was born November 10, 1926 in Mound Bayou, MS. She was educated in the Bolivar County School System and confessed a hope in Christ at the First Baptist M.B. Church of Mound Bayou, MS. Later, Mrs. Hamp relocated to Coahoma County where she became a member of Pilgrim Rest M.B. Church of Clarksdale, MS where she remained until her departure. She served as the Church secretary. She was a homemaker, a seamstress and a gardener. She had a passion for flowers and trees. She enjoyed reading, traveling and sewing. Survivors include five daughters, Annie Hamp-Shanks (Warren) deceased, Vera Hamp-Ray (Jimmy), Rita Faye Johnson and Alice Ree Johnson all of Clarksdale, MS and Glenda Kay Hamp of Southaven, MS; five sons, Willie "Billy" Hamp and Alphonso Hamp both of Clarksdale, MS, Melvin Johnson (Debra) of Tunica, MS, Aurice "Man" Hamp of Smyrna, TN and Brymon Shield Hamp of Dallas, TX; one brother, Pastor Roosevelt Johnson (Eddie Lee) of Memphis, TN; twenty-nine grandchildren; seventeen great- grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Hamp was preceded in death by her father, David Johnson of Gary, IN; mother Alice Brandon (Jesse) of Tunica, MS; three sisters, Sarah Johnson, Ceola Johnson and Rosetta Johnson all of Mound Bayou, MS; two brothers, Jesse Brandon (Mary) of Roumulus, MI and Frank Brandon (Doris) of Detroit, MI; two sons, Aurelius "Baby" Hamp and David Johnson both of Clarksdale, MS. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 9, 2017 from 1:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. at Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home and from 10:00 A.M. until service time at 11:00 A.M. at Union Grove M.B. Church on Friday March 10, 2017. Bro. L.C. Tyler, II is the Pastor and Pastor Anthony Calvin officiating. Interment will follow in the Shady Grove Cemetery in Tunica, MS. Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale, MS is handling the arrangements.
